Sharanksky opens Jewish Agency for Israel offices in Munich

On Sunday, Chairperson of Executive of The Jewish Agency for Israel, Natan Sharansky officially opened the offices of the Jewish Agency, which will also house the Janusz Korczak Academy, which is supported by the Jewish Agency.
During the two day visit to the Jewish Community in Germany, Sharansky spoke with Jewish students and young adults. He also met with the heads of the Jewish community and discussed innovative programs developed by The Jewish Agency to strengthen the connection between the young generation of Jews in Germany and the State of Israel and the Jewish world. The opening of the Jewish Agency office in Munich is part of an expansion of Jewish Agency activity in Germany. In Frankfurt, Sharansky met with the President of the Central Council of the Jews in Germany, Mr. Dieter Graumann.
The Jewish community in Germany has flourished in the last two decades following a wave of immigration from the former Soviet Union.  In 1989, the community numbered only 25,000 and today it numbers approximately 200,000. The Jews in Germany, 90% of whom speak Russian, live in many small communities spread across Germany.
