Report: Border crossings now closed military zones

All border crossings have officially become closed military zones as Israel prepared to transfer Palestinian prisoners in exchange for Gilad Schalit, an Al Jazeera correspondent reported early Tuesday morning.

The correspondent also said, via Twitter, that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Maj. Benny Gantz were accompanying Schalit's parents, Noam and Aviva, at a military base in central Israel.

Earlier, Israel began sending out convoys of Palestinian prisoners to different locations in the first phase of the transaction, which was expected to continue through Tuesday.
