Report: Abbas arrives in Cairo for two-day trip

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo on Sunday along with a delegation of Hamas members to discuss the resumption of the stalled reconciliation process, nearly a year after the rival parties signed a unity deal under Egyptian auspices.

The PA president will also hold meetings over two days with the head of Egypt's military council Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi.

According to the Palestinian envoy to Egypt, Barakat al-Farra, the Palestinian delegations will discuss "efforts to alleviate suffering for the people of the Gaza Strip resulting from the Israeli siege," as well as bilateral relations between the two groups, according to Al Jazeera.

Abbas is also scheduled to lay to cornerstone of the new Palestinian embassy headquarters in New Cairo, a satellite city of the Egyptian capital, the report said.

The PA president traveled to Cairo with PA Foreign Affairs Minister Riad al-Malki and senior PA officials Ramzy Khoury and Majdal Al-Khaldi.
