Up to 4,500 refugees at a camp on the outskirts of the French city of Calais known as the "Jungle" are facing eviction as officials have given them until Tuesday to take down their makeshift homes and move to new accommodations at shipping containers.
If the eviction is approved, between 800 and 1,000 people will be moved to a newly-built container camp and the slum will be razed, according to French police. The number of makeshift homes at the refugee camp in Calais has increasingly grown due to the influx of refugees to France, triggering the concern of the local administration as it is becoming harder to manage the area and count the number of refugees.
