Putin: Peace in Israel is a Russian national interest

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that it is in Moscow's national interest to ensure peace in Israel, speaking at the President's Residence in Jerusalem Monday night.

Saying that the world and region are changing quickly, Putin added, "we need to find partners to allow everyone to live in peace and quiet."

President Shimon Peres told the Russian president, "I am sure that under your leadership, Russia will play a central role in removing threats to world peace. I know that Russia is opposing the development of nuclear weapons by Iran and it is important that effort does not stop."
