Britain's flagship Muslim organization has attacked the government's pledge to reform a war crimes law used to try to arrest visiting Israeli dignitaries. Britain's principle of universal jurisdiction allows UK judges to order the arrest of visiting politicians and military officers suspected of committing atrocities anywhere in the world. But when such a warrant was issued for former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni this month, embarrassed British officials promised to reform the law. The Muslim Council of Britain says it is disappointed that the government appears to have caved in to Israeli demands that the law be thrown out. The group said Wednesday that the move was "manifestly partisan" and smacked of double standards.
