Pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian protests took place in Manhattan, New York on Thursday, just as a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was set to go into effect following 11 days of bloody conflict.
A number of vehicles drove through Manhattan's Diamond District in New York, waving Palestinian flags and throwing slurs against Israel and Jews. The district is home to many Jewish-owned businesses.
According to other reports, pro-Palestinian protesters threw an explosive device at the crowd in the district.
Protests later escalated to violence, with the NYPD arresting multiple rioters in Times Square.
Other reports stated that fireworks were set off in the area. In a tweet, the NYPD instructed people to avoid "the area of 6th Avenue and 47th Street in Manhattan," due to the protests. Dueling supporters clashed in Times Square as well.
Shortly after the truce between Israel and Hamas, US President Joe Biden promised to help rebuild Gaza and replenish Israel's Iron Dome system at an address he delivered at the White House on Thursday.
