Knesset forms transparency committee with Shaffir at the helm

The Knesset Committee on Transparency held its first meeting Tuesday, with MK Stav Shaffir (Zionist Union) as its chairwoman.
Shaffir called the new committee "the eyes of the public in the House," and pointed out that the inaugural meeting took place exactly four years after she helped start nationwide housing protests, which boosted her public profile, and said that the demonstrations brought a serious change in the Israeli public, which "cares more than ever where its money is invested and how the government makes decisions."
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein said the public has the right to demand more transparency and cited a Justice Ministry report stating that the Knesset is the most transparent government body.
