President Isaac Herzog held his first working meeting with opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday. They discussed burning issues of the day, especially how to overcome dangers posed by the threat of new coronavirus strains.
Netanyahu has yet to meet with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, with whom he is required by law to meet at least once a month. That time frame has already lapsed by almost two weeks.
Herzog, who is a former cabinet minister and opposition leader, said based on his personal experience, the role of opposition leader is very important because without opposition, there is no democracy.
Herzog made the same statement during his inaugural presidential address in the Knesset, directing the remark at Netanyahu.
Both men are very particular about masks, and they have both set an example for the public, which has been requested by the prime minister and Health Ministry officials to don them in indoor areas.
