GivingTuesday Israel online social campaign raises record NIS 1,050,582 in charitable donations

On the last day of 2013, a record NIS 1,050,582 was donated online to charity organizations as part of the GivingTuesday social campaign, online donation website IsraelGives announced on Monday.
According to Yonatan Ben-Dor, CEO of IsraelGives, there was a 666% increase in charitable donations compared to last year; with 3,364 donations to 283 nonprofit organizations, compared to 505 donations totaling 289,212 NIS to 55 nonprofits on December 31, 2012.  The data was taken from all donations made through IsraelGives.org, Israel’s largest donation website.
Furthermore, according to IsraelGives, 82% per cent of the donations were made by Israelis and 18% came from abroad.
“This finding is particularly interesting as in previous years the majority of donations made to Israeli nonprofits on 31/12 were from donors abroad; as a result of this campaign we have created a revolutionary change in end-of-year giving culture in Israel,” said Ben-Dor.
GivingTuesday Israel, a response to the largest US sales days – Cyber Monday and Black Friday – calls upon the public to donate once per year to any non-profit organization via the Internet.
