French military operation adjusts, expands post-Brussels attacks

Soldiers patrolling the streets of Paris Wednesday said they adapted their approach to an ongoing civilian military operation in light of last week's bombings in Brussels.In the wake of Islamic State attacks against satirical French weekly Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish deli that killed 17 people last January, more than 10,000 soldiers were mobilized on the French territory to survey buildings and areas vulnerable to threats, a military operation known as "Sentinelle".These measures, which are an addition to France's anti-terror surveillance plan, sustained the number of deployed soldiers at 7,000 before being once again increased to 10,000 after the Nov.13 attacks in Paris.Last week the operation was newly reinforced, after a series of bombings in the Belgian capital killed 35 people and injured scores of others.
