FM names batch of new ambassadors

Three of the Foreign Ministry's nine deputy directors-general were appointed Tuesday as ambassadors.
Ronny Leshno-Yaar, currently the ministry's deputy director-general of the Division for International Organizations and the United Nations, was named new envoy to the EU in Brussels; Aviva Raz-Shechter, deputy director-general of the Middle East Division was named ambassador to UN organizations in Geneva; and Aviv Shir-On, the deputy director-general for western Europe, was named Israel’s  new envoy to The Netherlands.
The ministry's appointment's committee also named veteran diplomat Nimrod Barkan as ambassador to Canada; Ilan Sztulman, head of public diplomacy at the US embassy in Washington, as ambassador to Argentina; and Oren David, who has served previously as Israel's envoy to Romania, as ambassador to The Vatican.
All the appointments must now be approved by the cabinet, something generally just a formality.
