Due to fraud probe, Metzger suspends himself from key roles

Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger on Sunday announced that, due to the fraud case against him, he was suspending himself from his role as a judge at the Supreme Rabbinical Court and would not be participating in meetings of the Chief Rabbinate Council while the investigation into his activities was ongoing.
Metzger, who was released to five days house arrest on Thursday after being questioned by police for some ten hours, informed Justice Minister Tzipi Livni and Religious Services Minister Naftali Bennett of his decision.
The chief rabbi said in a statement that he understands that suspending himself from his duties is the right thing to do, but added that he is innocent and hopes the investigation will soon come to an end.
