US commitment to Israel is rock solid, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Tuesday night in a joint press conference with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Clinton said that US President Barack Obama had asked her to come to Israel with a clear message: "America's commitment to Israel's security is rock solid."

Clinton called for an immediate cessation of rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip in order for calm to be restored.

She continued that the US was seeking a durable outcome to the current conflict that promotes regional security as well as the legitimate aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians.

She concluded by expressing regret for every loss of life, Israeli and Palestinian, and said there is no substitute for security and a just and lasting peace.
