Belarusian leader re-elected with 80 pct of vote

MINSK, Belarus — Belarus' election authority says incumbent president Alexander Lukashenko has won another term with nearly 80 percent of vote.
The Central Election Commission said that Lukashenko collected 79.67 percent of the vote in Sunday's presidential election. The second top vote getter among nine candidates in the vote received just 2.56 percent.
The announcement followed a violent night in which club-wielding riot police dispersed thousands of demonstrators who massed outside the main government office to protest alleged election fraud.
