Ramming attack foiled by Border Police at checkpoint near Jerusalem
The suspect was evacuated to Hadassah-University Medical Center and died from his injuries after failed resuscitation efforts.

A ramming attack was foiled on Wednesday afternoon at the az-Za’ayyem checkpoint near Jerusalem. The attacker died a couple of hours later, following failed resuscitation efforts at Hadassah-University Medical Center in Jerusalem.According to an initial investigation, the suspect, who, according to N12 was Nur Jamal Akir from the neighborhood of Silwan in east Jerusalem, approached the checkpoint and presented false documents reportedly belonging to someone else. During the routine security check, the suspect suddenly started driving while hitting a Border Police officer on the scene.Border Police officers opened fire at the suspect, who was severely injured and evacuated to Hadassah for medical treatment. He died of his injuries several hours later. The injured Border Police officer was evacuated, as well, having been lightly injured, and was released the same day.Several other attempted terror attacks have been foiled in recent weeks in the West Bank and near Jerusalem.On Sunday, IDF soldiers foiled an attempted attack against troops near Ramallah. The suspects placed hidden explosive devices near a military outpost. Earlier this month, the IDF foiled an attempted shooting attack near Nablus. In October, two Palestinian minors were arrested by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) after being recruited by Hamas and for planning to carry out attacks and kidnappings in the West Bank.Eve Young contributed to this report.
