Los Angeles Police fatally shot a 14-year-old girl Thursday when firing on an assault suspect in Los Angeles, local NBC affiliate KCRA reported.

The suspect, who had assaulted a woman earlier, was also killed in the shooting while the assault victim was taken to the hospital, KCRA reported.

The teenage girl's body was discovered behind a dressing room wall at a Burlington Coat Factory store that was penetrated by gunfire, according to NBC.

"These are a tragic and unfortunate sequence of events," LAPD assistant police chief Dominic Choi said at a press conference, NBC reported.

The store in question was filled with last-minute holiday shoppers before the Christmas holiday.
