Alleged spy held in Lebanon for spying for Israel

Lebanese security officials have detained a telecom engineer for two years and nine months because they accuse him of spying for Israel. The suspected Israeli spy began a hunger strike 10 days ago and his family called for Arab leaders and president Michel Suleiman to intervene to release their son, who they claim is innocent, according to a report in the Lebanese Daily Star.

“We plead with President [Suleiman] and the heads of Arab states to save Tarek [Rabaa] by meeting his legitimate demand to release him so he can end his hunger strike which he began on April 29,” the family said in a statement.

Rabaa said he would end his hunger strike only when he is released.

He claims that he was tortured.

“I have been kept in arbitrary detention since July 12, 2010, while many who confessed to have collaborated with Israel were released after serving a sentence much shorter than the time I have spent in prison so far,” Rabaa said in a statement on Thursday according to the report.
