AFTER being propelled out of obscurity and into a career that includes singing, modeling, cinema, and television, Maya Buskila is reportedly parting company with super-agent, Robert Ben Sasson. The reason: money. Apparently, the checks from Roberto, his agency, stopped arriving several months back, and Buskila grew tired of waiting. According to reports, attorneys acting for both parties are exchanging correspondence.

CONTRARY to reports published on the Internet, Jerusalem Film Festival founder and Israel Prize laureate Lia Van Leer, 82, is not going to retire after the upcoming Jerusalem Film Festival. Her lifelong romance with a cinema, a love she shared with her late husband Wim Van Leer, will continue - and she has no intention of stepping down.
IT may not be generally known, but one of the courses at the Tel Aviv Municipal High School for the Arts is Yiddish, which is studied by some 60 students in grades nine to 12. High school graduates who took Yiddish as one of their courses participated in a graduation ceremony last week in which they acted, sang and recited poems in Yiddish. To encourage them to continue, the best and the brightest were awarded scholarships by Hannah Levitt, who heads the Yiddishpiel Friends Association. Several former graduates also attended the ceremony. Veteran alumni of the Yiddish program, which is supervised by the Education Ministry, include Adir Miller and Rotem Abuhav.
Among the professional performers at this year's graduation ceremony was Anat Atzmon, daughter of Yiddishpiel founder Shmuel Atzmon. Two years ago, the Yiddishpiel Theater established The Young Yiddishpiel Troupe that now comprises 12 professional actors, and is a starting point for other young actors who sometimes find it easier to break into the profession via the Yiddish stage.
