The 100th International Women’s Day will be celebrated in the Holon Theater with music, dance, art and all-women discussion panels. The program is richer than in past years, offering something for everybody. On Wednesday there will be an evening of dance, She Movement, four works by budding choreographers; two plays, All the time in the world and I Love You; a jazz concert with pianist Katia Tubul, and more. An intriguing event, Women singing Elvis, will be held on Thursday featuring Riki Gal, Ruti Navon, Tamar Eisenman, Yael Deckelbaum, Yael Krauss and Carolina.

3. RUN
BEGIN RUNS NORTH
Join politicians, Knesset members and Mayor Nir Barkat as they run through the streets of Jerusalem at the first-ever “Begin Run.” The route of the race will visit locations significant in the late Menachem Begin’s life, such as the King David Hotel, The Museum of the Underground Prisoners, the old Knesset building and the railway station.

SOUNDS OF AGES PAST
Lute player Alon Sariel is visiting with his Israeli Early Music Project. The concerts feature a Venice Masked Carnival with the Herzliya Chamber Orchestra at the Herzliya Performing Arts Center.

5. MEDITERRANEAN GROOVE
The 2011 Groove Festival will come to its peak tonight as a long line of local artists participate in an all-star concert: The Apples with Yoram Arbel, Carolina, Bum Pam, The Ramirez Brothers, Kuty, Uzi Navon and others will share the gigantic stage with video and a blaring sound system.

6. GYPSY MAYHEM
Brace yourselves for the notorious onstage antics of the Balkan gypsy punk band Emir Kusturica and the No Smoking Orchestra. Offering what has been described as a musical circus – complete with a conventional rock band set-up embellished by everything from sax and tuba to exotic percussion – encompassing Balkan gypsy, punk, klezmer and everything in between, the show is extravagantly diverting.

7. IT’S A SMALL WORLD The first world music festival opens today in Herzliya. It is a musical meeting of east and west, with African beats, central Asian voices and Andalusian jazz. Yair Dalal will open the festival with his show The Perfume Road, a musical journey from the Far East to the Middle East, at 8:30 p.m.. The virtuoso jazz pianist Omri Mor will give a concert of piyutim from North Africa blended with jazz and Andalusian music at 10:15 p.m.

GOURMET FOR LESS
The 15th Gourmet Week will feature 100 restaurants throughout the country, all offering three-course meals for NIS 79. The Carnival, organized by the Internet site www.rest.co.il, will take place next week and will give foodies a chance to try dishes cooked by some of Israel’s best chefs for less. Among the participating restaurants are Rothschild’s Kitchen, Joya, Ad Ha’etzem, Ocean, Bistro Tamara, Nana Bar, White Hall, Casa de Brazil and more.

THE LADY IS HERE
The Israeli Opera’s next production, which premieres on March 10, will bring opera lovers the tumultuous Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Katerina Izmaylova), by the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, directed by Yulia Pevzner, based on a version staged by Irina Molostova, a Ukrainian stage director who first directed it in a joint production of the Israeli Opera and the Kirov Opera House in 1997. Molostova knew Shostakovich personally, having begun her career in the mid-1950s. The orchestra will be conducted by Keri-Lynn Wilson.

10. UPCOMING WALK
BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER
The “women building a bridge” festival at the Valley of Springs near Ashdot Ya’acov will be held on the Jordan River banks near the border between Jordan and Israel. The festival wishes to create dialogue between Jewish and Arab women from all walks of life, through shared activities such as a walk, bicycle tour, workshops, art displays and more. A group of women from Jordan is expected to join 3,000 locals.
