BBC buys Israeli show ‘Market Values’

Each of the show’s episodes exposes the viewer to a different culture and set of local customs by bringing a city market into focus.

The British Broadcasting Company has purchased Market Values (Shvakim), an Israeli television show, and will air it on various BBC channels in Asia.
Each of the show’s 13 episodes, produced by Ananey Communications and presented by actor Yishai Golan, exposes the viewer to a different culture and set of local customs by bringing a city market into focus. These markets include such international shopping meccas as the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul and the Crawford Market in Bombay, but also, closer to home, the Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem, the Tel Aviv Flea Market and the White Market in Acre.
Ananei Communications expressed pride over the fact that their show was the first Israeli production to be picked up by the BBC.
“We’re proud that a company such as the BBC purchased Market Values,”Sigal Shaldag of Ananei said last week. “The uniqueness of the seriesis that it brings to the television screen a bridging between culturesand forges a common denominator that transcends continents to reach abroad audience.”
