Ishai Golan who was the star of the television program Hatufim is running for a spot on the Tel Aviv city council in the upcoming municipal election.
The CIA TV drama series Homeland starring Claire Danes was adapted from Hatufim, that centered around a mossad agent, played by Golan, who returns home after being held captive in Syria for 17 years.
Golan will be running on the party list of City Without Borders.
In a statement Golan expressed his concern that Tel Aviv does not sufficiently support artists.
"In contrast to other cities around the world, Tel Aviv does not give any special funding for artists and it has no policy to support them," Golan said.
"It is important for me that I raise my children in a city that recognizes all of its citizens and that holds as central the principle of equality."
City Without Borders describes itself as a party that sees the ethnic, religious, and sexual diversity of Tel Aviv residents as one of the city's assets that it will work towards preserving.
Golan is also the host of the TV travel show Market Values in which he explores open air markets around the world.
