Former chairman of the Israel Football Association and former chairman of Hapoel Petah Tikva Gavri Levy died Thursday morning after being hospitalized for a serious illness over the past five weeks.Levy, born in 1937, was born and raised in Petah Tikva. After many years as a renowned choreographer and director of the Shalom Group, he was responsible, among other things, for producing the Eurovision Song Contest in Israel. In 1989 he came to Israeli soccer and served as chairman of Hapoel Petah Tikva.September 1996 He made the big move in his career when he was appointed chairman of the Football Association. Under his leadership, the Israeli team went up to the playoffs for the 2000 Euro, where it was beaten by Denmark.After retiring from the position in 2003, he returned to Hapoel Petah Tikva for a few more years and then chose to focus on dance again. More than a year ago he won the title of Yakir of Petah Tikva.Levi, who is also the father of soccer coach Guy Levy, resigned several times from his various positions in the Israel Football Association following various disagreements, but returned to his duties. During his time as chairman of the IFA, he was responsible for the “Premier League Revolution,” when until then the Israeli top-tier league was called the National LeagueOn his 80th birthday in December, he spoke about the climaxes of his life:“There were many highlights, we were chosen to submit a television show in America in 1958, it was like going to the moon.
