With the overhaul of Beitar Jerusalem in full swing, midfielder Maor Buzaglo is the latest addition to the soccer club from the capital.
The third player acquisition since Moshe Hogeg agreed to buy the team from Eli Tabib last week, the 30-year-old Buzaglo joins Tal Ben-Haim and Afonso Taira as the latest members of a new-look Jerusalem. Still recovering from a knee injury, it is estimated that within a month Buzaglo will be able to conduct full training and get back into form.
Reportedly, according to the agreement between Buzaglo and Beitar, a recurrence of the knee injury will automatically cancel the contract between the parties.
Buzaglo, who is used to wearing the number 11 shirt, is not sure he will accept it at Beitar because it was decided that in honor of Eli Ohana, the No. 11 jersey is not given to the players, though an exception may be made for Buzaglo.
“The number does not make the player, just the opposite, the player makes the number, it does not matter to us,” said Buzaglo.
It seems that Beitar’s budget will be higher than NIS 40 million. Hogeg surprised many when he said he was recruiting sponsors from abroad, apparently from the United States among others.
The infusion of capital has led to speculation that more moves are on the way – with Gent defender Ofir Davidzada and Maccabi Netanya forward Eran Leby being bandied about as potential targets – but Beitar coach Guy Luzon insists that he can’t assess the team’s needs properly until he has some time with the players on the pitch.
“With restarting the training, you have to re-connect everything ,and it can take time,” said Luzon, adding that the goal was to practice with the team throughout the week to get a sense of where the roster stands.
