Hadassah becomes first Israeli hospital to join global research network

Hadassah University Medical Center has become the first Israeli medical institution to join a worldwide research network that promises to optimize the nature and efficiency of clinical research and medical discoveries.Prof. Eyal Mishani, head of the Research & Development Division at Hadassah Medical Center told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday that the network platform, which is unparalleled in nature and size, will prove beneficial for both patients and medical staff as the center will gain access to large quantities of data supplied by other hospitals and medical companies.“We will be able to bring new solutions, new treatments to be implemented here in Hadassah,” said Mishani. “Let’s assume that there is a huge pharmaceutical company that develops a new drug. We will be the first to know and we can use it for the benefit our patients.”TriNetX is a global health research network of healthcare organizations, biopharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations which aims to increase the efficiency of clinical trials and enable medical discoveries through the gathering and sharing of real world data, gained outside of controlled medical trials.Medical institutions from 15 countries, representing approximately 135 million patients, currently make up the TriNetX network, whose headquarters are situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts.The network combines real-time access to clinical data with cutting edge analytical technology, thereby enabling researchers to speedily answer complex research questions regarding treatment effectiveness.Although Hadassah will be submitting clinical data to the network based on the treatment of its own patients, Prof. Mishani stressed the critical importance given to maintaining the privacy of patients’ personal information by the medical center.“Safety was one of the first things that we considered. TriNetX does everything that should be done to protect personal information,” he said, adding that Hadassah should be able to gain access to the system and its benefits later this month.Director of the Hadassah Medical Organization Prof. Zeev Rotstein praised the new opportunities for enhanced medical cooperation presented by the network.“Hadassah Medical Center, with its new framework, lies at the forefront of research, both in Israel and internationally,” he said. “The doctors and researchers in the hospital very proudly represent the significant achievements that they contribute to the advancement of future medicine.“I am convinced that the new partnership will lead us to new and impressive achievements,” he added.Gadi Lachman, CEO of TriNetX and a graduate of Tel Aviv University, welcomed the addition of Hadassah to the network.“We are excited to have Hadassah Medical Center become part of our growing international presence. We believe the added exposure to our pharmaceutical members will prove enormously beneficial for Hadassah,” Lachman said.
