Cross-border attacks between Syria and Lebanon rise
Syria fighter jets fired missiles into Lebanon; other signs show growing involvement of Iran and Syria in conflict.

Fighting continued unabated in Syria on Wednesday, as Syrian fighter jets fired missiles into Lebanon directed at the outskirts of Arsal, according to a report by the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International website.Additional signals also appeared on Wednesday that may symbolize Iran and Hezbollah’s growing involvement in the conflict.The Al Arabiya website reported that the rebel Free Syria Army arrested Hezbollah fighters in Sayyidah Zaynab, according to an opposition source. In addition, a Hezbollah fighter was buried in Syria after being killed in a battle near Damascus, according to a report by the Lebanese daily An-Nahar cited by Al Arabiya.The Free Syrian Army stated Wednesday that there was an “unprecedented deployment” of Hezbollah fighters and Iranian Revolutionary Guards in Damascus, according to the website.Meanwhile, The Washington Post reported that the US and Jordan are stepping up training for the Syrian opposition and may be planning to implement a buffer zone in Syria, to prevent the conflict and refugees from crossing into neighboring countries.The report also stated that the plan was still not finalized because the US and other countries refuse to provide air support to the rebel fighters. The US and other countries are worried about supporting the Islamist-dominated rebels.
