The Israeli delegation to the World Para Swimming Championships in Mexico City already has two medals to its name after the first day of competition on Saturday.The 30-year-old Inbal Pezaro claimed her 10th career medal at the event, ending the women’s 100-meter freestyle S5 final in third place in a time of 1:26.46 minutes.Sarah Louise Rung (1:22.65m) took the gold, with Teresa Perales (1:23.29m) going home with the silver.It was the first time Pezaro won a bronze medal at the world championships, having previously taken three golds and six silvers since first scaling the podium in the 2001 edition of the event.Pezaro, who is still undecided regarding her participation at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, has nine Paralympic medals on her resume, winning a bronze in Rio last summer after claiming three medals in 2012 and 2008, as well as two medals in 2004.Israel’s first medal in the championships was won by Mark Malyar. The 17-year-old, who is the youngest of Israel’s five representatives in the championships, took a bronze medal in the men’s 100m backstroke S8 final.He clocked a time of 1:13.76m.The championships were initially scheduled to take place in Mexico City in September, but were postponed due to an earthquake that resulted in the death of 370 people.
