Israeli skier finishes 49th in Olympic giant slalom
Biran will be in action once more on Thursday when he competes in the slalom.

Israeli skier Itamar Biran finished the men’s giant slalom at the Pyeongchang Olympics in 49th place on Sunday.Biran, 19, clocked a time of 1:17.52 minutes in his first run and 1:16.19m in his second run to finish 15.67 seconds behind overall winner Marcel Hirscher of Austria in a field of 110 competitors, 35 of which didn’t finish.Hirscher won his second gold medal of the Games after leaving a field of rivals trailing in his wake with another technical masterclass in the giant slalom at Yongpyong Alpine Centre on Sunday.The Austrian, who had already won the men’s combined, posted a time of two minutes and 18.04 seconds for his two runs, a full 1.27 seconds ahead of Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen, who produced the quickest second run to leap up to second from 10th in the morning run.Biran will be in action once more on Thursday when he competes in the slalom.On Monday, Adel Tanakova and Ronald Zilberberg will compete in the figure skating ice dance short dance. The Israeli duo registered a score of 44.61 in the short dance as part of the team competition in Pyeongchang last week.Tanakova and Zilberberg and competing at the Games thanks to Isabella Tobias and Ilia Tkachenko, who earned Israel’s berth in the ice dancing by finishing in 12th place at the World Championships last year.Tobias and Tkachenko are not able to compete in Pyeongchang as Tkachenko’s multiple requests for Israeli citizenship have been turned down. Both skaters must have citizenship of their respective country to take part in the Olympics.In the World Championships, it is enough for one of them to be a citizen.
