One of the hardest challenges of making Aliya is deciding to come to Israel in the first place. But what of the slew of obstacles that await olim once they are here? This is particularly true for students entering the school system for the first time.
Therefore, on Tuesday, Nefesh B’Nefesh will host a symposium entitled “Olim Engage Israel” to help new olim fully acclimatize with the Israeli school system.
The event will target olim coming from North and Latin America and will create a forum so educators, students and parents can familiarize themselves with the school system. The talk will be held in both Hebrew and English.
“We look forward to gaining a better understanding through this symposium, of how the synergy between parents, educators and schools can be further developed and improved,” said Rabbi Yehoshua Fass, cofounder and executive director of Nefesh B’Nefesh, said of the event, which will be held at Hebrew University’s Givat Ram campus.
Attendees will include Professor Emeritus Sergio Della Pergola, former chairman of the Herman Institute of Contemporary Jewry; Hebrew University and a panel discussions moderated by Prof. Gabriel Horenczyk from the School of Education and the Melton Center for Jewish Education at Hebrew University; and Dr. Michael Gillis, Melton Center for Jewish Education director at Hebrew University.
The event, which was launched in cooperation with  Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund, the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, the Jewish Agency for Israel and JNF-USA, will create an open dialogue between all parties and enable audience participation.
