Jewish comic Eric Andre to play Tel Aviv show in March
The Birthright alum has spent the last 5 years hosting a show named for him on Adult Swim, and has also played more traditional roles on popular sitcoms.

The winter of comedy in Israel isn’t over yet. Following the buzzed-about performances of Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Jim Jeffries, another comedian will be trying his hand in Tel Aviv: Eric Andre.The actor and comic will be taking the stage at the Gesher Theater on March 29 to deliver his unforgettable act (after the first show quickly sold out, another late-night slot was added). For the past five years, Andre has been the host of The Eric Andre Show on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, which has been called “possibly the weirdest (and most engrossing) ten minutes on contemporary television.”He has also been seen in more traditional sitcoms, like Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 and 2 Broke Girls.Andre, 34, was born in Florida to a Haitian father and a Jewish mother. In an interview with Larry King in November, Andre told a surprised King about his heritage.“You didn’t do enough Wikipedia-ing,” he told King.“My mom’s a Jew – I’m Ashkenazi Jew on my mom’s side, and my dad is a black, he’s a Haitian man.”And when he’s not being interviewed himself, Andre has no problem crashing interviews. At the Republican National Convention in 2016, Andrew crashed a Breitbart interview, and told the site’s Joel Pollak that he went on Birthright.“Are you pro-Israel?” Pollak asked. “I’m pro-Tel Aviv, Eilat and the Golan Heights,” he replied. When announcing the show on his Twitter feed Monday, Andre said he’s “playing the motherland.” And there’s no doubt the motherland is ready to hear him perform.Tickets for Andre’s show at Gesher, which seats 850 people, are on sale for NIS 244 each at eventim.co.il.
