Medical cannabis course to be offered at Jerusalem college

Some 80 students have already enrolled in a medical cannabis course the Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem will offer in December focusing on entrepreneurship and growth opportunities for the product.“We will teach all aspects of medical cannabis from infrastructure to agriculture, to how to grow it, as well as medical treatment, legal issues and business entrepreneurship,” said Dr. Michael Dor, a former Health Ministry deputy director-general who was in charge of distributing licenses to patients who qualified for medical marijuana. He currently is director of the “Medical Cannabis Entrepreneurship” program at Hadassah.More than 700 entrepreneurs have applied for a license to grow marijuana in Israel and, according to Dor, it has tremendous potential in medicines and export products.The course will focus on the pharmacological effects of the various strains of medical cannabis; legal implications of marijuana sale and manufacture worldwide; recent developments in medical treatments involving cannabis; marijuana and its affect on cancer; cannabis and its affect on autism, specifically in children; extracting the optimal medical benefits from the cannabis plant; genetics of the cannabis plant; and marijuana as a pain reliever.“This really is a cutting edge field to be a part of at this moment,” said Hadassah president, Prof. Bertold Fridlender.“We want to offer our students an opportunity to learn and explore the multitude of opportunities it presents.”
