MKs (L-R) Sharren Haskel (Likud), Merav Ben-Ari (Kulanu) and Ayelet Nahmias-Verbin (Zionist Union) wore IDF uniforms in the Knesset as a pre-Purim gesture Tuesday, honoring women of the IDF who have been under attack from some religious-Zionist rabbis in recent weeks.
The three even sat in the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in uniforms, each representing a job that used to be closed to women and is now open to them.
Haskel wore the uniform of the Border Patrol, where she used to serve, Ben-Ari, who was an education officer in Golani, wore a flight suit, and Nahmias-Verbin dressed as a tankist.
Ben-Ari, who came up with the idea, said: "We are in a new age in which many positions are open to young women who are enlisting... It is important to us to send a message to these young women and to all women. Our army is the army of the people... in which everyone should be equal."
