Activists begin vigil against terror

Activists for applying Israeli sovereignty to Judea and Samaria began a 33-hour vigil outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Jerusalem residence Sunday to protest the 33 murders since the wave of Arab violence began on the eve of Rosh Hashana.

Ministers, MKs, and activists from Bayit Yehudi and other parties attended the vigil, which was organized by Women in Green. The vigil will continue until Monday afternoon, hosting several MKs on their way to the Knesset.

The organizers decided on the vigil after paying a shiva call in Karmei Tsur to the family of of Eliav Gelman, who was murdered Wednesday.

"We said we cannot let ourselves get used to this," Women in Green co-chair Nadia Matar said at the vigil.

The Women in Green said their goal was to change the mindset of Israelis regarding annexation, which they said was the only solution to Palestinian terror in the short or long term. They said their bottom-up strategy was modeled after the success of the Left in persuading Israelis that a Palestinian state was inevitable and in Israel's interests.

"We need a root canal or the terror will continue," said Women in Green co-chair Yehudit Katsover. "We need to focus on the public mindset, because without it, what we are trying to build would have no foundation."

The organizers of the rally decided it would be 33 hours, despite two of the victims not being Jewish. They said an Arab killed in Gush Etzion and an Eritrean killed in Beersheba counted because "they were murdered by Arabs who thought they were Jewish."
