Kansas on Friday became the 21st US state to enact a law barring boycotts of the Jewish state. Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback signed the bill outlawing state agencies from engaging in contracts with entities or companies that are part of the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign targeting Israel.The law’s language says state entities may not “enter into a contract with an individual or company to acquire or dispose of services, supplies, information technology or construction, unless such individual or company submits a written certification that such individual or company is not currently engaged in a boycott of Israel.”According to The Wichita Eagle, “In 2016, Kansas exported $56.7 million in commodities to Israel and imported $83.7 million from Israel.”In May, 50 state governors declared their opposition to BDS.
