Palestinian report: Youth shot dead in clash with security forces

Security source: Border Police fired rounds from a Ruger rifle, officers said they aimed at rioter's legs.

Security personnel shot and killed a Palestinian youth during a riot near Jenin overnight Tuesday, according to the Ma’an Palestinian News Agency.
An Israeli security source said the incident occurred during an arrest operation in the West Bank village of Burkin, when soldiers guarded by Border Police officers arrived to arrest a security suspect.
The man had been suspected of taking part in past rioting, the IDF said.
During the arrest, rioting broke out, the source said, and a border police officer fired rounds from a Ruger rifle, which fires lower impact rounds than other firearms. While Border Police personnel said the officer fired at the man’s legs, the hospital in Jenin that received the injured rioter later announced that he had been killed by a gunshot wound to the chest, despite undergoing surgery.
Ma’an named the injured man as Muhammad Ahmad Alawneh, 21. An army spokeswoman said the IDF is looking into the incident to gather further information.
The IDF made a series of arrests overnight across the West Bank, taking a total of 18 security suspects into custody. Two are members of Hamas who were arrested in Jenin and Kalkilya, the army said.
The remainder are suspected of taking part in violent disturbances.
Several arrests were made in villages near Ramallah and Bethlehem, as well as in Hebron.
Two men were arrested in Al-Khalil, south of Nablus, and one suspect was arrested in Urif, southwest of Nablus.
The IDF carried out an arrest raid on a suspect in Akraba, southeast of Nablus, and in Haja, northeast of Kalkilya.
Four security suspects were arrested in overnight raids in Hizma, southeast of Ramallah, and two more in Al-Jib, southwest of Ramallah.
Two men were arrested in Khirbat Adir, southwest of Bethlehem.
