The Palestinian Authority may be boycotting US Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt, but Israel is definitely not, and on Sunday he visited the area near the Gaza Strip border for a view of recently uncovered terror tunnels that penetrate into Israel.
Maj.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai took Greenblatt, as he has done in the past, to the area.
“The difficult situation in the Gaza Strip is the result of the policy of the Hamas terror organization, which, instead of investing in civilian infrastructure, invests in terror tunnels and manufacturing weapons,” Mordechai said.
Mordechai also blasted the Palestinian Authority for the situation in Gaza, saying “They do not invest enough in the Gaza Strip and impose sanctions on its residents.” He said he hopes this is clear to the international community as well as to the Palestinian people.
Following the visit, Greenblatt wrote on Twitter that “Hamas wastes resources on tunnels & rockets to attack Israel, instead of helping the people of Gaza by getting the lights on, the water flowing & the economy growing.”
Hamas, he added “spews hateful rhetoric & foments a vicious cycle of violence. Gaza deserves better!”
